Aims and objectives: to revise students' speaking skills; to develop students reading skills; to develop students' speaking skills; to practise scanning of the text for specific information.
Warm up Reading
The teacher's greeting. Good morning, students! I'm glad to see you. How are you?
Students revise sound [ae]. The twister is on the blackboard (or in the handouts): a The fat cat sat on the man's black hat.
Game "Tell about yourself"
Teacher prepares slips of paper with a variety of questions about family, friends, hobbies, traits of character (one question is on one slip).
1. Is your family large or small?
2. Have you got any sisters or brothers?
3. Are you an elder/a younger/only child in the family?
4. What kind of person your close friend is?
5. What's you hobby?
6. What kind of sports do you like?
7. What is your favourite school subject? Etc.
Slips are in a big hat (box). Students takes the slips in turn, read the sentence and answer the question.
Introducing the topic
Teacher presents the text "Little Sister" (ex. 2, p. 24) and says about the tasks. Teacher asks students to mark incomprehensible words while they read the text.
Students read the text aloud one by one.
Focus on gist. Teacher asks students the questions (ex. 3, p. 24). Students agree or disagree and prove their minds.
Relaxation. Game "Verb Tennis"
Teacher divides students into two groups A and В (or you name these groups) and gives students a ball.
a A player from team A thinks of a verb and serves a ball (a verb) saying the sentence in Present Simple.
a A player from team В returns the ball (the verb) saying the sentence in Present Continuous.
a A player from team A hits the ball (the verb) back Maying the sentence in Past Simple.
a A player from team В now thinks of a new verb to continue the game. Not more than 4-5 verbs.
Teacher proposes the students to think of thru In <>!hrr/sister. Students have 1-3 minutes for preparing their own ehoi I -lory about their brothers /sisters. Students use ex. 5, p. 24 as an example.
