Aims and objectives: to present vocabulary about clothes and accessories; to practise the use of pronouns "this/these" "that/those"; to consolidate vocabulary and grammar material; to develop skills of giving opinions.
Warm up Season Clothes
The teacher's greeting. Good morning, students! I'm glad to see you. How are you?
Students revise sound [ее]. The twister is on the blackboard (or in the handouts): □ Sarah and Mary share their pears fairly.
Checking on homework
Ex. 6, p. 30; pronunciation and translation of the words.
Teacher prepares computer presentation or individual cards. If it's presentation teacher works with whole class, if these are cards students do their tasks individually. The task is to guess rebuses and say the answers with pronouns "this" and "these".
Introducing the topic
Presentation of vocabulary. Students write them into vocabularies:
□ A hat — капелюх
□ An umbrella — парасолька
□ A bag (a handbag) — жіноча сумка
□ A headscarf — хустка
□ A belt — ремінь
□ A cane — ціпок
□ A tie — краватка
□ A cravat— краватка, шийна хустина
□ Gloves — рукавички
□ Mittens — рукавиці
□ Glasses — окуляри
□ Bracelet — браслет
Students look at the pictures (ex. 1, p. 30) and describe people's clothes as it is an example.
Intensive reading. (Ex. 2, p. 30). Students have to read the text. Before reading they get to know what sentences are missing in the text (parts A to F).
Answers: 1 hot weather; 2 from the sun; 3 to keep us cool; 4 our feet getting hot; 5 cold and snowy outside; 6 a cloudy and rainy day.
Teacher asks the questions to the text (to the whole class), and students answers.
1. Why do we choose the clothes every day?
2. Why do we change our clothes during a day?
3. Can we wear sandals and flip-flops in winter?
4. Do you wear jeans and trainers to a theatre? Why yes or not?
The teacher makes movements with the students. Teacher uses any rhyme for physical exercises. For example:
Hands on your hips;
Hands on your knees,
Put them behind you,
If you please.
Touch your shoulders,
Touch your nose,
Touch your ears,
Touch your toes.
Work in class. Students read the statements (ex. 4, p. 31) and agree or disagree with them. Each of the students has to think of these statements and says his/her own opinion proving the mind.
Homework Season Clothes
Ex. 5, p. 31-32, to learn the words.
Please, tell me what things we can call with pronounces "this/these"? "that/those"? Give me examples. Students' answers.
