Aims and objectives: to revise students' speaking skills; to develop students reading skills; to practise scanning of the text for specific information.
Warm up George Goea Picnicking
The teacher's greeting. Good morning, students! I'm glad to see you. How are you?
Students revise sounds [p), [i:|, [1), [ai), [e]. The twister is on the blackboard (or in the handouts): a Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.
Checking on homework
Ex. 7, p. 68.
Introducing the topic
Teacher presents the topic of the lesson using ex. 1, p. 69. Teacher divides students into pairs. Their task is to answer the questions individually, and then ask their partners and complete the table. After this part, students make short dialogues and show them to class.
Teacher presents the text "George Goes Picnicking" after George Adams (ex. 2, p. 69-70). Students listen to the text.
Focus on gist. Students look trough the text and make ex. 3, p. 70 answering the questions.
The teacher makes movements with the students. Teacher uses any rhyme for physical exercises. For example:
Number one, touch your tongue.
Number two, touch your shoe.
Number three, touch your knee.
Number four, touch the floor.
Number five, learn to jive.
Number six, pick up the sticks.
Number seven, look at heaven.
Number eight, over the gate.
Number nine, touch your spine.
Number ten, do it again.
Focus on details. Students read the text and find out information about underlined pronouns. They have to define who or what is each of them (ex. 4, p. 70) as it is in the example. Answers: a He — George a We — the Rabbits

Focus on pronunciation. Students look through the text and write down the words with the following sounds: [k], [s], [л], [a:] as it is in the example (ex. 5, p. 70).
Focus on grammar. Students have to find the examples of countable and uncountable nouns and write them into two columns (ex. 6, p. 70).
Focus on grammar. Students have to choose the correct word and complete the sentences (ex. 7, p. 71).
After-reading activity is checked in the class. Answers: 1 her; 2 I; 3 carrots; 4 was; 5 jars; 6 too much.
Homework George Goea Picnicking
Read the list of the things you need. Read the recipe and prepare ingredients (p. 71, part A).
Summary and feedback
The teacher summarizes the work by asking for students' feedback.
