Aims and objectives: to introduce and practise new vocabulary; to develop students' listening and speaking skills; to develop students' skills of giving opinions.
Warm up Free Time
The teacher's greeting. Good morning, students! A glad to see you. How are you?
Students revise homophones. Teacher gives the definitions of the homophones if it is necessary. The pairs of the words are on the blackboard (or in the handouts):
d weather/whether a site/sight
a rose/rows a board/bored
Checking on homework
Ex. 8, p. 70; vocabulary of the topic.
Introducing the topic
Teacher can use the computer presentation or prepare pictures, or use the pictures from the text-book (ex. 1, p. 74) to introduce the topic. Students look through the pictures and say what the name of the topic is. (Free Time).
Students look at the picture and say what children like to do in their free time as it is in the example.
The teacher asks students to think and write some more names of activities they like to do. Then students are arranged in pairs and make a short dialogue. They use the example (ex. 2, p. 74).
The teacher gives students the text for listening (ex. 3, p. 75). Students listen to the text, and then read it. After this, students have to find information what the children like/dislike to do, complete the table and say about it.
Students look through the table and answer the question (ox. 4, p. 75).
The teacher makes movements with the students. Teacher uses any rhyme for physical exercises. For example:
Hands up, hands down. Hands on hips, sit down. Hands up, to the sides. Bend left, bend right. 1, 2, 3 hop. 1, 2, 3 stop! Stand still. Sit down.
Work in pairs. Students think and write a list of questions like these:
1. Do you watch TV a lot?
2. What are your favourite programmes? or types of films?
3. Do your parents allow you to watch all programmes do you want?
4. Do you play any musical instrument? What exactly?
5. Do you like it?
6. Do you go in for sports? What exactly?
7. Do you go to trainings? How often?
8. What other activities do you like doing?
The teacher divides students into pairs, and in pairs, they ask each other about the things they like doing in off school hours. Students present their dialogues to the class.
Homework Free Time
Ex. 6, p. 76; to learn the vocabulary.
Summary and feedback
The teacher summarizes the work by asking for students' feedback.
