Aims and objectives: to practise vocabulary and pronunciation; to practise students' listening and speaking skills; to develop skills of giving opinions; to develop tolerance to others.
Warm up Places to Go
The teacher's greeting. Good morning, students! I'm glad to see you. How are you?
Students revise sound [w]. The twister is on the blackboard (or in the handouts): □ Wendy went away twice a week.
Checking on homework
The teacher displays students' works, and students tell about the things they are going to do this week. The best work is voted.
The teacher prepares the "Places Wheel" and the "Week Wheel", draws two arrows on the blackboard and explains the rules of the game.
First, the teacher names the leader (the winner of "My Planner", for example). Then the leader turns the wheels one by one (they are placed at the blackboard, too) and students have to say what places they are going to visit this day. Students work in whole class in turn; they can miss : their turn, and the first student visited all the places is a winner.
Introducing the topic
Teacher presents the topic of the lesson (ex. 1, p. 78) and pays students' attention to the difference between activities in a Planner (to be going to do smth.)and usual activities (always, often, usually, sometimes, seldom, never in Present Simple). Students listen to the dialogues and repeat if they often spend their time at these places.
A. Do you often go to the cinema / movie?
B. No, I don't. I go to the cinema with my brother only, and he's very busy. And you?
A. I go to the cinema once a week with my best friend.
A. Do you often go to the museum?
B. Oh, no. I go there once or twice a semester with my teacher. And what about you?
A. Me too.
A. Do you often go to the Zoo?
B. No, I don't. I go to the Zoo once a year. And you? A. So do I.
A. Do you often go to the Art gallery?
B. Yes, I do. I go there two times a week. I study at the Art school. And what about you?
A. I don't go there so often, at the outside once a year.
A. Do you often go to the circus?
B. Yes, I do. I go to all firsts. And what about you? A. So do I.
Students look at ex. 2, p. 78 and make the task: read and match the parts of the sentences. They have to answer the question "What do you go there for?"
Answers: 1 c; 2 a; 3 d; 4 b; 5 e.
The teacher makes movements with the students. Teacher uses any rhyme for physical exercises. For example:
Stand up and look around. Shake your head and turn around. Stamp your feet upon the ground. Clap your hands and then sit down.
Students read the text (ex. 3, p. 79) in pairs, and then they act the і mi la r dialogues to the class. Teacher pays students' attention to the table given below. Students read the table and find accepting and refus-" ing in the dialogue. If it is necessary, the teacher gives translation of the accepting (згода) and refusing (відмова).
Students read the invitation and reply below. Then students answer the questions in their exercise books. After this part, students read their answers for checking.
Homework Places to Go
Ex. 5, 6, p. 80; to write invitation at the card.
