Warm up Ukraine Is Our Motherland
The teacher's greeting. Good morning, students! I'm glad to see you. Mow are you?
Students revise sounds [o:] and [з:]. Students listen to the words and repeat them. Students have to differ these sounds in listening and pronunciation. The words are on the blackboard (or in the handouts): n Form, firm, shirt, short, work, walk, talk, turn.
Checking on homework
Students read their works (selectively) and say two more sentences about themselves.
Students answer the questions:
1. Where were you born?
2. What is your native language?
3. What other languages do people speak in Ukraine?
4. Name the capital of Ukraine; the main cities; the places of interest; the national parks.
The student who gave the most correct answers is the winner.
Introducing the topic
The teacher presents the topic. Students listen to the text "Ukraine Is Our Motherland" (ex. 2, p. 129), underline unknown words. Then the teacher explains the expressions. Students read the text.
The teacher makes movements with the students. Teacher uses any rhyme for physical exercises. For example:
Two little feet go tap, tap, tap. Two little hands go clap, clap, clap. Two little feet go jump, jump, jump. Two little hands go thump, thump, thump.
Students read ex. 3, p. 129-130 and complete the sentences to make the story about Ukraine. Students retell the story in chain.
Answers: 1 Ukraine; 2 Ukrainians; 3 Kyiv; 4 independent; 5 wonderful; beautiful; generous and hard-working; 6 rich; large; beautiful; 7 oldest; 8 longest.
The teacher divides students into pairs. Then, in pairs, students make a dialogue as in the example (ex. 4, p. 130). They may use information from the previous exercise and act out their dialogues.
The students pairs are arranged into groups and students discuss which places around Ukraine they would like to visit (ex. 5, p. 130). Students use the phrases for asking and giving opinion.
Homework Ukraine Is Our Motherland
Ex. 6, p. 130; to draw a picture (photo).
Summary and feedback
The teacher summarizes the work by asking for students' feedback.
