Aims and objectives: to practise vocabulary and pronunciation; to revise writing of general and special questions; to practise students' reading and listening skills; to develop tolerance to others.
Warm up National Symbols of Ukraine
The teacher's greeting. Good morning, students! I'm glad to see you. How are you?
Students revise sound [n]. The rhyme is on the blackboard (or in the handouts):
We are awaking
And we are rolling,
Now we're jumping,
We're running and playing,
We're having a rest,
And we can not staying.
Checking on homework
Teacher displays students' works. Then some students present their stories.
To revise students ability to use "the" with the place names, the teacher prepares cards with the names of places, gives them to students, and proposes them to divide these cards into two groups: "the" and "without the".
The teacher can use the names like these: □ The Askania Nova (nature reserve), the Carpathian (mountains).
Ay Petri (mountain), the Dnipro (river), Svityaz (lake), the Bommer (cinema), the Arctic (ocean), the Gobi (desert), the United States of America Country), Lviv (city), the Louvre (museum), Heathrow (airport), the Tate (gallery).
Introducing the topic
Teacher can use the computer presentation or prepare pictures to introduce the topic. The teacher introduces the concept of national symbols. Students have to name them (ex. 1, p. 131). Then the teacher shows pictures with flags of countries (e.g. Ukraine, Great Britain, Russia, the USA, and Canada) to students, and they have to identify these flags and talk about the country in such a way (or as in the example in ex. 5, p. 132): □ It is the national flag of Ukraine. It is blue and yellow. It is the national symbol of the country. The people in Ukraine are Ukrainians. They speak Ukrainian.
Students listen to the dialogue (ex. 2, p. 131), underline unknown words, and then read the dialogue. Students have to elicit new information from the dialogue and retell it to class.
The teacher makes movements with the students. Teacher uses any rhyme for physical exercises. For example:
One, busy wife's rubbing the floor. Two, busy wife's polishing the door. Three, busy wif 'se washing the socks. Four, busy wife's winding the clocks. Five, busy wife's cleaning with the broom. Six, busy wife's tidying up the room. Seven, busy wife's washing in the sink. Eight, busy wife's giving the cat a drink. Nine, busy wife's cooking dinner too. Ten, busy wife's with nothing else to do.
Students, in pairs, take turns to ask and answer the questions according to the text (ex. 3, p. 132).
To revise grammar material, students do ex. 4, p. 132. They have to choose the correct variant to complete the sentences. Then the teacher reminds students of different types of questions (general and special), of their formation; students write two questions to each sentence. Answers: 1 b; 2 c; 3 c; 4 a.

The teacher summarizes the work by asking for students' feedback.
