Warm up Places to See in Ukraine
The teacher's greeting. Good morning, students! I'm glad to see you. How a re you?
Phonetic exercise
Students revise sounds [1] and [1:]. The teacher gives students the cards with the table. Students have to tick the words with the same sound, then listen to them, repeat and check themselves.
Checking on homework
Students (selectively) read their letters. The teacher makes the display of students' works.
The teacher can use ex. 1, p. 147 for the game. The teacher chooses a narrator. He/she ask students the questions, and students answer them. The first student answered correctly becomes a narrator.
Introducing the topic
To introduce the topic the teacher uses the text like this:
The Freedom Square is the main square of Kharkiv and an architectural landmark. It is the largest city-center square in Europe and the ninth in the world. It is the place of every possible events: concerts, demonstrations, meetings, competitions. Two metro stations are located under the square: station Universitet of Saltivska line and Derzhprom of Oleksiivska line.
Derzhprom building is the central object of the round part of the Freedom Square. This architectural landmark was built in 1920-th and became the first skyscraper in the whole country.
To the right of Derzhprom building you can see the famous Kharkiv National University named after Karazin.
To the left of Derzhprom you can see the Military University and two luxury hotels: the Kharkiv hotel and the Kharkiv Palace hotel. The Kharkiv Palace hotel is a quite new 11-stored building.
The Freedom Square in Kharkov is the true heart of the city.
It's reasonable to supplement the text with pictures or computer] presentation.
After-listening. Students read the statements (ex. 2, p. 148) and com-plete them with the correct words.

The teacher makes movements with the students. Teacher uses any rhyme for physical exercises. For example:
Handy bandy Jack-a-dandy 
Loves plum cake and sugar candy, 
He bought some at the grocers shop 
And out he came, hop, hop, hop.
Work in pairs. To practise the vocabulary, students act out the dialogue as in the example (ex. 3, p. 148). Their task is to read the dialogue and make the similar one about their regional centre.
To get more information about Ukrainians places to visit, students read the text (ex. 4, p. 148-149) and fill in the gaps with the words from the box.

Homework Places to See in Ukraine
To make a mini-project about their regional centre, ex. 5, ex. 6, p. 149.
Summary and feedback
The teacher summarizes the work by asking for students' feedback.
