Aims and objectives: to revise students' speaking skills; to develop students reading skills; to practise scanning of the text for specific information.
Warm up City Grandmother, Country Grandmother
The teacher's greeting. Good morning, students! I'm glad to see you. How are you?
Students revise sound [ж]. The twister is on the blackboard (or in the handouts): n Can you can a can as a canner cans a can?
Introducing the topic
Teacher proposes students to look at the pictures (ex. 1, p. 160) and to say what kinds of places they can see. Then students describe them shortly.
Teacher presents the text "City Grandmother, Country Grandmother" (ex. 2, p. 161) and says about the tasks. Teacher divides students into two groups. The first group has to read part A, and the second group has to read part B. Teacher asks students to mark incomprehensible words while they read the text.
After reading. Students may ask about underlined words and teacher explains their definitions.
Students make the plan to their part of the text and try to retell the text according to the plan, and share information.
The teacher makes movements with the students. Teacher uses any rhyme for physical exercises. For example:
Ten little fingers Ten little toes Two little ears And one little nose Two little eyes They shine so bright One little mouth To say that' right.
Focus on gist. Students complete the sentences (ex. 3, p. 162) and read them for checking. Answers:
1) wide street;
2) narrow street;
3) a kitchen in her flat;
4) also a small patio leading to the garden;
5) go to the Zoo or to a cinema, and go shopping;
6) go to the forest, gather berries and mushrooms; ride their bikes to the river; feed chickens and rabbits;
7) Dan gives his big hugs to his grandma;
8) which place he likes more: a city or a village.
Focus on details and grammar. Students find who or what does each underlined pronoun stand for (ex. 4, p. 162). Checking in class. Answers:
1) city grandmother;
2) Dan and his city grandmother;
3) city grandmother;
4) a private house;
5) city grandmother's;
6) Dan's city grandmother and country grandmother.
Focus on vocabulary. Students put the letters in the correct order to tfet the names of the places. Then they match the descriptions with the word (ex. 5, p. 162-163).
Summer, river, park, yard, stadium, cinema. 1. museum; 2 river; 3 park; 4 yard; 5 stadium; 6 cinema.
Students practise these words in ex. 6, p. 163. They have to choose the correct word and complete the sentences. Then the teacher proposes students to write questions to the text (ex. 7, p. 163). Students have to write general, special or disjunctive (tag) questions. After finishing this work students (selectively) read their questions to the class. Other students answer them.
Answers: 1 river; 2 Museum; 3 parks; 4 cinemas; 5 stadium; 6 yard.

Part A, B, p. 163-164; to bring some paper, clue, scissors and some coloured felt pens, photos or pictures.

The teacher summarizes the work by asking for students' feedback.
