Aims and objectives: to revise vocabulary; to practise the use of "make" and "do"; to practise the use of prepositions "at", "on" and "in"; to develop students' listening and speaking skills.
Warm up Celebration of Holidays in Ukraine
The teacher's greeting. Good morning, students! I'm glad to see you. How are you?
Students revise intonation in questions. Students get the table with the questions. The have to listen to the questions, repeat them, define intonation (falling or rising) and mark it in the table. Then define the type of the questions.
Checking on homework
Students (selectively) read their works.
Introducing the topic
To introduce the topic of the lesson the teacher can use ex. 1, p. 169 or another variant of pictures. Students have to listen to the sentences 1 to 8, match them to the pictures and choose the correct word: "make" or "do". The teacher uses the sentences like these.
Examples of sentences
In our family we usually prepare for holidays. My Mum does the cleaning before every holiday. My father also does the dusting in all corners of our flat. My sister likes to make postcards on her own. I usually make the decorations for our flat. We also do the shopping to buy some special food and drinks. My little sister likes to do the shopping with the whole family. Then my Mum and I make a special dish for a holiday. If it is a birthday, my Mum always makes a birthday cake. And in the evening I usually make a festive tea for my family.

Students read the text (ex. 2, p. 169-170) and match the pictures Л to С to the paragraphs lto 3. While reading, students mark unknown words and expressions, and the teacher explains them after reading.

After reading activity. Students talk about the same traditions in Ukraine.
The teacher makes movements with the students. Teacher uses any rhyme for physical exercises. For example:
This is our father, short and stout.
This is our mother with children all about.
This is our sister with a doll on her knee.
This is our brother, tall, you see.
This our baby, sure to grow.
And her is our family all in a row.
Work in pairs. The teacher divides students into pairs. They have to make short dialogues with the questions from ex. 3, p. 170.
Work in class. Students read the situation (ex. 6, p. 171) and talk about Christmas traditions in Ukraine, and ask about traditions in Great-Britain.
Students look at the grammar part (ex. 4, p. 170), read the sentences and complete the rules. Then, students listen to the rules and repeat them.
To practise the use of prepositions "at", "on" and "in", students complete the sentences with the prepositions (ex. 5, p. 171).

Summary and feedback
