Aims and objectives: to revise students' speaking skills; to develop students reading skills; to practise scanning of the text for specific information.
Warm up A New Friend
The teacher's greeting. Good morning, students! I'm glad to see you. How are you?
Students revise sound [\v]. The twister is on the blackboard (or in the handouts): □ One-one was a race horse. Two-two was one too. One-one won one race. Two-two won one too.
Introducing the topic
The teacher divides students into pairs. Then the teacher gives students the task to look and talk about the picture (ex. 1, p. 202).
Teacher presents the text "A New Friend" (ex. 2, p. 202-203). Teacher divides students into two groups. The first group lias to read ',>art 1, and the second group has to read part II. leacher asks students lo mark incomprehensible words while they read the text. Students read the text.
The teacher makes movements with the students. Teacher uses any rhyme for physical exercises. For example:
I measure from top of my head to my toes. I measure my arms starting here by nose. I measure my legs and I measure me all. I measure to see if I'm growing tall.
After reading students may ask about underlined words and teacher explains their definitions.
Students make the plan to their part of the text and try to retell the text according to the plan, and exchange information.
Focus on gist. Students make ex. 3, p. 203 and order the sentences according to the text.
Focus on details. Students read the sentences (ex. 4, p. 203) and decide who or what each underlined pronoun stands for. Then they read them in turn and check.
Focus on grammar and writing. Students put the letters in the correct order to get the verbs. Then they match them to the descriptions (ex. 5, p. 203-204). Then to practise these verbs, students complete the sentences (ex. 6, p. 204). Checking in class.
Then the teacher proposes students to write questions to the text (ex. 7, p. 204). Students have to write general, special or disjunctive (tag) questions. After finishing this work students (selectively) read their questions to the class. Other students answer them.
Homework A New Friend
Part A, B; to bring some paper, clue, scissors and some coloured felt pens, photos or pictures.
Summary and feedback
The teacher summarizes the work by asking for students' feedback.
